Track to Compete at Linfield and Washington
March 4, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track team will get its first test of the outdoor season this weekend when it competes at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker Invitational March 5-6 in McMinnville, Ore.
'Mainly, what this first outdoor meet is used for is to get the rust off,' head women's track coach Kelly Sullivan said. 'We have a group running a 10k Friday night that we're going to be using as a temporal run; we're kind of using that as a workout. Then we have another group that will run the 1,500 Saturday at Linfield.'
Oregon State assistant coach Adam Tribble will be taking a group to compete at Linfield where they will run in a 'workout' 10k Friday night starting at 8 p.m. They will follow that up with a 1,500 event around Noon.
Also Saturday, Sullivan will be taking Lara Carlyle and Abby Chesimet will be competing at the UW Last Chance Indoor meet in Seattle, Wash. to compete in the mile. Carlyle set the school record for the mile at the Husky Classic Feb. 13 with an event winning time of 4:50.90. Chesimet finished 20th overall in the event with at time of 5:06.72.
'Laura Carlyle and Abby (Chesimet) are going to be there running the mile and we're looking for them to just work on their personal bests and hopefully pick up a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships,' Sullivan said.
Along with Carlyle and Chesimet, seven Oregon State football players will be competing; five in the 60-meter dash and two in the high jump.
'We have seven football players going to do their last indoor meet; five of them are going to run the 60-meter dash and Obum (Gwatcham) and Jordan (Bishop) will do the high jump again. It will be the first time running for Jacquizz (Rodgers) and Marcus (Wheaton).'
Bishop won the first flight of the high jump and finished third overall after jumping a provisional qualifying height of 7' 0.5.' James Rodgers and Keynan Parker put up the best 60-meter time both tying for 16th with a time of 7.03.
'It's going to be a fun weekend,' Sullivan said.
