NEW ORLEANS - Both the Husky men's and women's 2009 cross country teams have been named All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. In addition, women's harriers Christine Babcock and Kailey Campbell both earned individual All-Academic mention.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish among the top 15 finishers (or top 10 percent) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet. Babcock, a sophomore, and Campbell, a junior, both finished in the Top-10 at the 2009 West Regional meet. Babcock was also named Pac-10 First Team All-Academic while Campbell earned honorable mention.
The women's cross country team took third at the 2009 NCAA Championships back in November while the men finished 18th. In 2008 the Husky women were named the USTFCCCA National Scholar Team of the Year.
