Stanford's Smit and Mosko Named Pac-10 Swimmers of the Month for February

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD senior Julia Smit was named the Pac-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Month for February and Stanford junior David Mosko was named the Pac-10 Men’s Swimmer of the Month for February, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Smit had an outstanding February, winning the 200-yard IM (1:56.43), 200-yard freestyle (1:45.31) and 200-yard backstroke (1:57.15) to lead Stanford over California in a dual meet, but her culminating at the Pac-10 Women’s Swimming Championships Feb. 24-27. The Mt. Sinai, NY native swam American, NCAA, Pac-10 and school records in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.31 and in the 400-yard IM (3:58.23). Smit also won the 200-yard backstroke, setting a Stanford school record with a time of 1:50.76. For her accolades following the Pac-10 Championships, Smit was named collegeswimming.com’s National Swimmer of the Week.
Mokso, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, won the 500-yard free (4:23.28) and the 200-yard fly (1:46.72), both NCAA ‘B’ cuts in a dual meet win for the Cardinal over USC. In the squad’s final dual meet of the season against rival California, Mosko won the 200-yard fly (1:47.16) and finished third in the 200-yard free (1:39.09) and the 500-yard free (4:29.58).
This is Smit’s fifth Women’s Swimmer of the Month honor in her career and fourth this season, tying USC’s Rebecca Soni for the most Women’s Swimmer of the Month Awards all-time. Stanford tallied its ninth Women’s Swimmer of the Month accolade all-time. For Mosko this is his first Men’s Swimmer of the Month award and the eighth all-time for Stanford on the men’s side.
