Davis Earns At-Large Bid; Brackets Set for NCAA Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. – Senior Keegan Davis (Salem, Ore.) earned the last bid for the Oregon State wrestling team to the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships, announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
Davis with a 34-10 overall record this season at 157 pounds, finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championships, just shy of the automatic bid to nationals. This is his second trip to the NCAA Tournament, after qualifying with an at-large bid last season.
Oregon State has already qualified five in redshirt sophomore Jason Lara (Midway City, Calif.) at 125 pounds, sophomore Kelly Kubec (Lake Stevens, Wash.) at 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Mike Mangrum (Auburn, Wash.) at 141 pounds, junior Colby Covington (Springfield, Ore.) at 174 pounds and sophomore Clayton Jack (Vacaville, Calif.) at heavyweight.
Lara will face Eric Morrill of Edinboro in the pigtail round first at 125 pounds. Kubec will take on Jimmy Kirchner of Rider, who he defeated by fall at the Midlands Championships in 2:22, while Mangrum faces Mike Koehnlein of Nebraska, who he defeated by major decision on January 24, 11-3, this season. Davis will take on Kyle John of Maryland in the first round, while eighth-seeded Covington will have Jim Resnick of Rider first at 174 pounds. Finally, Jack will compete against fifth-seeded Daniel Erekson of Iowa to start the tournament.
Competition for the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships begins on Thursday, Mar. 18 and continues until Saturday, Mar. 20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
