No. 8 Beavers Travel to No. 9 Utah to Face Strong Field

THE MEET ... The No. 8 Oregon State gymnastics team (10-2) faces three nationally ranked teams this Friday, Mar. 12. The Beavers are set to travel for the fourth of four straight road meets this time at No. 9 Utah (7-2) at the Huntsman Center at 6 p.m. PST. The meet also features No. 18 Penn State (13-4) and No. 21 Southern Utah (7-2) ... Live stats and video are available at www.utahutes.com.

THE SERIES ... The Beavers trail the all-time series with the Utes 7-55 and have lost the last eight meetings. Oregon State's last win against Utah came in Corvallis in 2004 ... OSU holds a 9-6 all-time series lead over Penn State and have won the last three. However, the Beavers and Nittany Lions have not competed against each other since 1998 ... Oregon State has beaten Southern Utah all three times the teams have met.

WHAT'S COMING UP ... Next week, Oregon State finally returns to the comfort of Gill Coliseum to face SEC foe Kentucky next Friday, Mar. 19. It will be the first time since Feb. 12 that the Beavers have performed at home. The meet also marks Senior Night for Laura-Ann Chong, Mandi Rodriguez and Whitney Watson.

IN THE RANKINGS ... All four of Oregon State's lineups are ranked in this week's Top 11. The Beavers are ranked 11th on vault, seventh on the uneven bars, seventh on the balance beam and fourth on the floor exercise ... in addition, several OSU gymnasts are ranked among the top 15 in the nation: Mandi Rodriguez (9.925 average) is fourth and Becky Colvin (9.890) is tied for 12th on vault; Laura-Ann Chong (9.900) is fourth on bars; Rodriguez (9.870) is tied for 12th and Chong (9.865) is tied for 14th on the beam; Makayla Stambaugh is tied for fifth and Rodriguez (9.895) is tied for 15th on the floor; Rodriguez is tied for 11th in the all-around (39.385).

UPDATES FROM THE PRACTICE GYM ... Sophomore Leslie Mak, who sprained her elbow during warm-ups at Ohio State (1/16), has put her uneven bars routine back together and could be ready to return to the lineup this week at Utah ... Freshman Kelsi Blalock, who sprained her ankle during warm-ups last month at California (2/7), has resumed practicing in the gym. She will not travel with the team to LSU this week ... Freshman Leilani Alferos will be sidelined for a couple weeks after a bicycle accident two weeks ago (2/22).

TICKETS ... Tickets for the 2010 season are on sale for the final home meet of the season.

The Beavers are scheduled to face Kentucky (Mar. 19).

LAST TIME ON THE FLOOR ... A week after posting their season-high at Arizona State, the Beavers traveled to LSU where they counted a pair of falls for the first time this season, losing 195.525-196.925 ... Mandi Rodriguez scored a 39.400 in the all-around to finish second and tallied a 9.925 on the vault to tie for the event title ... Laura-Ann Chong tied her career-high on the beam with a 9.925 to win a share of the individual title ... Makayla Stambaugh returned to the all-around lineup after not performing on the beam or floor the previous two weeks due to a sore ankle and led the Beavers with a 9.90 on the floor ... Olivia Vivian sat out of the beam and floor lineups to rest a balky knee ... Melanie Jones had a great night posting a career-high on beam (9.825) and added a 9.875 on the floor.
