Three Bruin Basketball Players Honored By Pac-10 Conference

March 10, 2010

In a vote of the league's 10 head coaches, UCLA junior guard Doreena Campbell (Alexandria, VA/Thomas A. Edison HS) and sophomore forward Jasmine Dixon (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly HS) earned first-team All-Pac-10 Conference honors, while freshman forward Markel Walker (Philadelphia, PA/Schenley HS) was named to the honorable mention team, as well as to the All-Freshman first team and the All-Defensive honorable mention team.

Campbell, who was a second-team selection last year and an honorable mention pick during her freshman season, is averaging 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and is the only member of the Bruin squad to start in all 29 games this year. She leads the team in both free throw percentage (.859) and three-point field goal percentage (.436) and twice scored season-bests of 21 points (at Oregon and at Washington). Campbell ranks fourth in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage and seventh in assists per game.

Dixon has made an immediate impact after transferring from Rutgers a year ago, averaging team highs of 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Since she became eligible on Dec. 15, the Bruins have gone 18-4 and won a school-record tying 15 Pac-10 games. She was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week on Mar. 1 after posting only the second 30/20 game in school history with career-highs of 31 points and 20 rebounds in a win at Oregon. Dixon currently ranks 17th in the nation in field goal percentage (.557) and is ranked in the Pac-10's Top 10 in six statistical categories - No. 2 in field goal percentage and offensive rebounds (3.5); No. 3 in steals (2.3); No. 6 in rebounding; No. 7 in scoring; and No. 9 in defensive rebounds (4.5).

In her first season, Walker has played in all 29 games for the Bruins, making 23 starts. She has been a big presence in the post, averaging 10.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She was selected the Pac-10 Player of the Week on Feb. 1 and ranks amongst the Top 10 in the conference in five statistical categories - No. 8 in rebounding, field goal percentage (.480) and defensive rebounds (4.7); No. 6 in steals (2.1); and No. 5 in offensive rebounds (2.9).

The Pac-10 Player of the Year, Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Pac-10 Coach of the Year as voted on by the head coaches will be announced on Thursday, March 11.
