USC To Compete At Northridge Invitational On Saturday
March 10, 2010
The USC track and field team will be competing at the Northridge Invitational in Northridge, Calif. and at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 12-13. Redshirt sophomore Bryshon Nellum after largely spending two seasons on the shelf with injuries will make his 2010 debut as part of the 4x400m relay team and freshman Reggie Wyatt is expected to run his first 400m intermediate hurdles race as a Trojan. Redshirt senior Brandon Estrada will compete in the pole vault and sophomore Blake Shaw in the one-mile race at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Nellum, who's only race as a Trojan came on March 1, 2008 as part of a 4x100m team, is working his way back into shape and will ease into competition by running the first leg for the 4x400m relay team. Wyatt, who set the all-time high school intermediate hurdles record last season, will run his first 400m IH race for USC at Northridge.
USC is mostly focused on relays in the running events this weekend, but among the other highlights expected for USC this weekend in Northridge are sophomore Aareon Payne running the 100m dash, senior Shalina Clarke running the 100m HH, sophomore Dalilah Muhammad running the 100m HH and the 400m IH and redshirt seniors Aaron Dan and Colin Campbell competing in the men's discus.
Estrada, who set a PR with a pole vault of 18-0.5 last week at the Washington Last Chance Meet, will compete at the NCAA Indoors attempting to earn All-America honors. He enters the race tied for the third-highest clearance in the field and now is tied for fourth place on USC's all-time pole vault list.
Shaw, who ran USC's first-ever sub-4-minute mile last week with a time of 3:59.85, will compete in the one-mile race in Arkansas.
