Trojans Tied For Fourth at Southern Highlands
March 12, 2010
Freshmen T.J. Vogel and Martin Trainer finished tied for seventh and 10th, respectively, to lead the No. 15 USC men's golf team into a tie for fourth after the first round of the 2010 Southern Highlands Collegiate Maters in Las Vegas on Friday (March 12).
USC finished the first round at 8-over 296, four back of first-place Florida (292) while UCLA is second (294) and Texas A&M is third (295).
Vogel, who was second last week at the USC Collegiate Invitational, fired a 1-under 71. He was 3-under through five holes but 2-over after nine. He responded on the back nine by going 3-under on three birdies to finish three strokes off the lead.
Trainer had a much less eventful round, carding par on the front and back nines with a bogey and birdie on each to finish at par 72. He leads the Trojans with a team-best four top 21 finishes.
Freshman Stewart Hagestad tied for 25th at 3-over 75. He finished with four birdies and was even on the back 9. Sophomore Steve Lim tied for 53rd at 6-over 78 while junior Matt Giles tied for 73rd at 10-over 82.
