TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 59 University of Arizona women’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins at home this weekend with wins coming yesterday against the University of Memphis and today against Oregon University. The Cats won today 5-2 to clinch their first Pac-10 win of the season.
“Our team did a really nice job today,” said head coach Vicky Maes. “The Ducks are always tough to play because they grind no matter what the score. We squeezed out the doubles point at three which gave us awesome momentum going into the singles. I was proud of our spirit and the fact that we managed to carry our intensity all the way through the match.”
The Wildcats battled for the doubles point. On court two, seniors Natalia Toporowska and Claire Rietsch fell 8-6 to Oregon’s Julia Metzger and Subine Fuchs, but the Wildcats tied it at one match apiece on court one.
