Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) racked up four RBI on her 2-for-3 outing to lead the Oregon State softball team (10-11) to a 11-3 victory over North Dakota (3-11) in five innings on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

Freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) had a perfect 2-for-2 performance with two runs and a RBI, while junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3, and sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) also recorded a pair of hits.

Oregon State took the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with the first three batters with a pair of walks and an infield single by Lowe. Roderfeld scored Cavestany on a sacrifice fly to right field before Lowe scored on an error by second baseman Toni Schutte.

The Beavers capitalized on three more North Dakota errors in the bottom of the second, tacking on three more runs. Lowe earned an RBI on her second hit of the game to right field to score freshman Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif.), who reached on a throwing error by first baseman Brittany Baker on a sacrifice bunt attempt to advance sophomore Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas), who led off the inning with a walk. Cavestany also picked up a RBI in the inning on a sacrifice fly that was caught in foul territory to score Chandler.

North Dakota ruined the shutout with a ground out RBI in the top of the third, but Doremus hit an in the park home run, her first career home run, to score two in the bottom of the third to give the Beavers a 7-1 edge.

Kristi Alcorn and the Fighting Sioux cut the Beavers’ lead to four with a solo shot over left center in the top of the fourth and a RBI single by Baker to make the game 7-3. But Roderfeld widened the gap back to six on a two-run homer over left field in the bottom of the inning to make it a 9-3 game.

Needing two runs to win by the mercy rule in five innings, Cavestany opened the bottom of the fifth with a single. She advanced to second on Lowe’s sacrifice bunt before moving to third on a ground out. Roderfeld scored Cavestany with a double to left field before Brenner ended the game with her walk off RBI double to score sophomore Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, Alberta), who was in to run for Roderfeld.

Senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) earned the win after throwing 3.1 innings, striking out four. Dyer improves to 3-1 on the season. Hall completed the game on 1.2 innings of work, fanning five. North Dakota’s Emma Gronseth was charged with the complete game loss, falling to 3-5.
