Starks Earns Spot At NCAAs

USC junior Steven Starks placed third on the 10-meter to join three Trojan teammates as NCAA Championships qualifiers on the final day of the 2010 Zone E Championships on Saturday (March 13) in Austin, Texas.

Starks took third with 733.05 points to earn his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. He has been a point scorer the first two times.

Sophomore teammate Harrison Jones, who already qualified for the NCAAs after a first place on 1-meter, finished 10th on platform.

Sophomore Victoria Ishimatsu and freshman Ariel Rittenhouse also had already secured spots in the women's NCAAs heading into today's platform competition. Ishimatsu, who won the two springboard events, finished third today with 525 points. Rittenhouse, who earned her spot with a second on 1-meter, was ninth (475.85). Trojan sophomore Michela Fossati-Bellani made the final and was 11th (410.95).

The women's NCAA Championships are Thursday through Saturday (March 18-20) at Purdue. The men's NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 25-27 at Ohio State.
