Cougar Baseball Falls at Dallas Baptist

DALLAS - Dallas Baptist collected 17 hits and defeated Washington State 14-5 in nonconference baseball, Tuesday.
Derek Jones staked the Cougars (10-4) to a 2-0 lead with his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the top of the first. The Patriots (10-6) answered with the three runs in their half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
WSU tied the game in the fourth on a RBI-double by Garry Kuykendall. Tyler Robbins hit a three-run off Cougar starter Richie Ochoa (1-1) in the bottom of the inning as Dallas Baptist regained the lead at 6-3.
The Cougars scored twice in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring double by Matt Fanelli and a RBI-single by Brady Steiger. Dallas Baptist closed the scoring with a run in the fifth, six in the seventh and one in the eighth.
The team conclude their two-game series, Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Central/4:30 p.m. Pacific.
Matt Fanelli started at first base, the first time he has played in the field this season...Derek Jones homered for the 16th time in his career...freshman Richie Ochoa made his first-career start on the mound.
