Getting to Know Yasmin Schnack

Yasmin Schnack is senior women’s tennis player at UCLA. Schnack currently ranks No. 4 in the nation in singles and No. 5 in doubles with teammate Andrea Remynse according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In the fall of 2009, she captured the singles title in the Flight-A-Draw at the Cal/Nike Invitational. Last season, the Sacramento, Calif., native earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles and was also named a first team All-Pac-10 selection. As a freshman in 2006-07, Schnack earned All-American honors in doubles and was a second team All-Pac-10 selection. She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after going 5-0 at the No. 3 singles position during UCLA’s run to the NCAA Final. 

Pac-10: What has been the best part of the 2009-10 tennis season...
YS: It would have to be when we played in the Indoor Championships. It was fun to watch our young team come together.

Pac-10: What is currently on your iPod...
YS: I have a good mix of music. I have some pop, rock, country and hip hop. One of my favorite groups is Lincoln Park.

Pac-10: If you could change places for a day with a celebrity or famous athlete who would it be and why...
YS: I would say Kim Clijsters because she is feisty on the tennis court and I love watching her play tennis. She is a hard worker and that is something that I admire.

Pac-10: Growing up, who were your favorite athletes to watch...
YS: Growing up my favorite athletes to watch were Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Lindsay Davenport. 

Pac-10: Your favorite athlete to watch compete is...
YS: Roger Federer. He is the best in the sport and is so much fun to watch.

Pac-10: What is the talent that you would most like to have...
YS: The talent I wish I had was an amazing singing voice. 

Pac-10: What is your favorite memory as a Bruin...
YS: It would definitely have to be winning the 2007 NCAA Championships. Holding the championship trophy is a memory that I will never forget.

Pac-10: What are your plans after college...
YS: Note sure yet. I still need to figure things out. I plan on giving the pros a couple of years. After my playing days, I would like to become a pediatrician because I really love children. 

Pac-10: What is the best thing about UCLA...
YS: There are so many things I like about UCLA. It’s not just the academics, it’s the college atmosphere. We have a beautiful campus and the weather is amazing. 

Pac-10: What’s the one sport that you are probably the worst at...
YS: I would say either basketball or softball.

Pac-10: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know...
YS: That I love to ride motorcycles. I have also gone skydiving, so people would be surprised to know that. 

Pac-10: What is the best advice you have ever received...
YS: The best advice that I have ever received is probably, “Perfect practices makes perfect.” That has stuck with me as long as I can remember.

Pac-10: What is your biggest pet peeve...
YS: My biggest pet peeve would have to be when people are fooling around the take things to far. When it’s time to focus the fooling around needs to stop.

Pac-10: What you you miss most about your home town....
YS:  The thing I miss most about my hometown is being with and spending time with my family. I am very close to them.
