Pacific Takes Game One Of Series, 8-2

STOCKTON, Calif. - Marcus Pointer allowed two runs on three hits in seven innings to improve to 5-0 on the season Friday as the Pacific Tigers defeated the USC Trojans, 8-2. The Tigers banged out 14 hits with 12 of them coming in the final four innings.
Joe Oliveira and John Haberman had three hits each for the Tigers, who improved to 11-6. Ricky Oropesa had two hits and one RBI for USC (9-9) as the Trojans made their first-ever appearance in Stockton for baseball.
Matt Foat's sacrifice fly gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead in the first as Andrew Triggs allowed just two hits through four innings. Oliveira put the Tigers ahead for good with a two-run triple in the fifth, followed by Brett Christopher's RBI double. Mike Walker hit an RBI double to chase Triggs in the seventh as the Trojan right-hander gave up six runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings with no walks and five strikeouts.
Jake Hummel threw two scoreless innings in relief to snap the Trojans' three-game winning streak.
The series continues tomorrow with a 6 p.m. start and 1 p.m. start for Sunday's finale with both games being broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
