Bears Beat Lipscomb, 5-3, but Blanked by Hawaii, 3-0

HONOLULU - The No. 12/13 California softball team began Friday with a 5-3 win over Lipscomb, but ended the evening with a 3-0 loss to host Hawaii in the third day of the Chevron Spring Fling.
At this week's tournament, the Golden Bears (22-6) are now 2-1 against the Bison and 1-1 versus the Rainbow Wahine.
In the first game of the day, Cal had eight hits to Lipscomb's seven. Valerie Arioto and Frani Echavarria each had a home run. Echavarria's homer came in the top of the second off the second pitch of the inning for a solo shot to give Cal an early 1-0 lead.
Jolene Henderson pitched against the Bison, allowing two earned runs off seven hits. Echavarria paced the Bears with three RBI, two of which came in the third inning. Arioto hit her roundtripper in the top of the fifth for Cal's final run of the game.
After Cal defeated Hawaii on Thursday, the Rainbow Wahine got their say, scoring one run in each of the first, fifth and sixth. Arioto pitched the complete six innings for the Bears, giving up three runs (two unearned) and four hits, striking out eight.
Against Hawaii, Cal's Jace Williams had the Bears' two hits. Hawaii hurler Kaia Parnaby struck out 12 Bears.
Cal closes out its week in Hawaii with a 5 p.m. tilt against the Rainbow Wahine.
