No. 12 UCLA Baseball Improves to 15-0 With 12-2 Win Over Oral Roberts

LOS ANGELES - The No. 12 UCLA baseball team improved its record to 15-0 by defeating Oral Roberts, 12-2, in the second contest of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Right-hander Trevor Bauer improved to 4-0, limiting the visiting Golden Eagles to one run and five hits in eight innings.
Bauer struck out nine and walked just one in helping UCLA extend its win streak to 15 games, the program's longest win streak on record. The Bruins are off to its best start in any season in the modern era (dating to 1955).
A closely-contested ballgame through the first five innings turned in UCLA's favor in the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Bruins scored nine runs to lead, 10-1.
UCLA received multiple-hit efforts from five players. Right fielder Jeff Gelalich had a productive afternoon in his first career start, leading UCLA with a 3-for-3 effort, one run and one RBI. Designated hitter Blair Dunlap, second baseman Tyler Rahmatulla and catcher Trevor Brown each went 2-for-5. First baseman Justin Uribe went 2-for 6.
Each of the Bruins' nine starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit.
Oral Roberts right-hander Jeff Burleson (1-2) absorbed the loss, allowing five runs and four hits in relief. Designated hitter Seth Furmanek led the Golden Eagles at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one solo homer in the ninth inning.
UCLA led 1-0 in the second inning on an infield RBI-single by Gelalich. Oral Roberts (5-9) tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the third on a run-scoring groundout by center fielder Joey Winiecki.
The Bruins' nine-run sixth inning featured five singles, one double, three walks, one hit batter, one balk and one passed ball. Espy and Brown each recorded two-RBI doubles in the frame. Dunlap, who extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games, finished the inning going 2-for-2 with one run and two RBI. In all, UCLA sent 14 batters to the plate before grounding into an inning-ending double play.
In the seventh inning, the Bruins added two more runs to lead, 12-1. A double to the left-center field gap by third baseman Cody Regis scored Uribe before left fielder Cody Keefer advanced home from third on a passed ball.
UCLA and Oral Roberts conclude their three-game series Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m. Fans are advised to arrive early, as the Los Angeles Marathon's route will run adjacent to Westwood and Jackie Robinson Stadium. The only entrance to the ballpark will be at the Constitution/Sepulveda intersection.
