Stanford Defeats Indiana in First Round of Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championships

MARANA, Ariz. - Stanford earned a 3-2 victory over Indiana in the first round of the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championships being contested at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.

Sihwan Kim, Steve Ziegler and Steve Kearney all picked up wins for the Cardinal. Kim was a 2-up winner over Alex Martin, as the Stanford junior won holes #13 and 17 for the victory.

Ziegler never trailed in his match against David Erdy en route to a 3&2 victory, while Kearney earned a 1-up victory over Ren Han,

Joseph Bramlett fell 3&2 in his match against Brant Peaper, while Chase Wright scored a 2-up victory over Stanford's Andre De Decker.

With the win, Stanford advances to the second round where the Cardinal will meet USC.

The Callaway Collegiate Championships continue through Tuesday at Dove Mountain.
