Tanner Robles Named Pac-10 Pitcher Of The Week
March 22, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State left-handed pitcher Tanner Robles has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, league commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
Robles was dominant in the Beavers' 12-2 victory over Maine Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader. He scattered two hits and a run, which was unearned, in eight innings. The lefty struck out a career-best 12 in the win.
Robles improved to 4-1 with the win, and he dropped his earned run average to 1.72, lowest among OSU's pitchers with 10 or more innings this season. It also ranks him fourth in the Pac-10 this season, and his 34 strikeouts on the year are good for ninth.
The junior has won three straight games, producing quality starts (three earned runs or less in at least six innings) in all three. During that stretch, he has given up just 15 hits and two earned runs in 22 1/3 innings of work.
On the year, Robles has struck out 34 in 31 1/3 innings, and walked just seven, giving him a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.85:1. His WHIP, meanwhile, is a miniscule 1.05.
It is the second Pitcher of the Week honor this season for the Beavers. Greg Peavey earned the honor after holding Tennessee to three hits in a 1-0 shutout on Feb. 28.
Oregon State moved up in three rankings Monday. The Beavers moved up four spots in the Collegiate Baseball poll to No. 9. OSU is also No. 14 in the Rivals.com rankings, up from 17th, and Baseball America has the Beavers at No. 17, up a spot from a week ago.
The Beavers continue their homestand Wednesday when Southern Utah visits Corvallis. The game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. PT start at Goss Stadium.
