March 23, 2010
STANFORD, Calif. - The honors continue for Stanford pitcher Teagan Gerhart this week. The freshman has been selected the NFCA National Player of the Week, Tuesday, after earning her first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week accolades on Monday. Gerhart improved to 13-2 as she helped lead the Cardinal to a perfect 5-0 record last weekend at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic.
Gerhart was lights out for the Cardinal over the weekend, throwing three-straight no-hitters, starting with her first career perfect game in an 8-0 win over Santa Clara on Friday. The Norco, Calif. native retired a season-best 13 batters, including eight in a row to end the game.
On Saturday, in a 7-0 win over Princeton, Gerhart struck out eight batters for the complete game shutout and was just one team error short of a second perfect game. She also earned her first career hit, an RBI double. Gerhart finished off the day with an 8-0 win over Saint Mary's, throwing six strikeouts in five innings of work. She also went 2-3 from the plate against the Gaels, including her first career home run.
On the final day of the tournament, Gerhart captured her fourth win of the weekend against Cal Poly, and then earned her first career save against Saint Mary's. For the weekend Gerhart tossed 26.0 scoreless innings, with 34 strikeouts and allowed just one walk and three hits to finish with a 0.00 ERA. She has now thrown 36.0 consecutive scoreless innings for the Cardinal.
Stanford returns to the field today as it travels to Davis, Calif., for a 2 p.m. contest with the UC Davis Aggies. The Cardinal will then return to The Farm to host its final tournament of the year, the Stanford Invitational, from Mar. 26-28 at Smith Family Stadium.
