Golfers Conclude Match Play Championship with Victory

The fifth-seeded UCLA men's golf team won its fourth round match against Texas Tech and finished 11th at the annual Collegiate Match Play Championship held this year at Dove Mountain Golf Club in Marana, Ariz.
The Bruins defeated the Red Raiders, 2-1-2, winning matches at Nos. 2 and 5, halving at Nos. 1 and 3 and falling at No. 4. UCLA finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.
Freshmen Pontus Widegren and Mario Clemens were the winners on Tuesday and both players finished the tournament with 3-1-0 records. Widegren won at No.2 with a 4 and 3 victory over Tech's Chris Ward. Clemens won at No.5 with a 3 and 2 triumph against Tyler Weworski.
UCLA sophomore Alex Shi Yup Kim and freshman Pedro Figueiredo each halved their matches. Kim finished the tournament with a 1-2-1 record all at the No.1 singles spot and Figueiredo was 2-1-1 at No.3. In his match, Figueiredo trimmed a late three-hole deficit with six holes to play only to halve the final three holes against Texas Tech's Matt Smith. Kim halved the last hole against Nils Floren after making a pair of birdies at his 16th and 17th holes.
At No.4, junior Connor Driscoll lost 5 and 3 to Brian Scherer.
In the championship match, New Mexico defeated USC, 3-2.
