USC To Compete At Stanford Invitational And Cal-Nevada Championships This Weekend

2010 USC TRACK AND FIELD - Limited members of the USC Trojans men's and women's track and field team will be competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. on March 26-27 and at the Cal-Nevada Championships in Westwood, Calif. on March 27-28. Blake Shaw, Nate Anderson, Zsofia Erdelyi and the women's sprint relay team are scheduled to run at Stanford, while the majority of the USC throwers and pole vaulters as well as Leah Gaeta in the 1500m will be competing at UCLA. The rest of the USC track and field team will be training through the week.
LAST WEEK AT THE TROJAN INVITATIONAL - The Trojans posted the top collegiate marks in 19 events at the Trojan Invitational on March 19-20. The highlight was all four Trojan hurdlers winning with Shalina Clarke capturing the 100m HH, Dalilah Muhammad the 400m IH, Oscar Spurlock the 110m HH and Reggie Wyatt the 400m IH. Other females winning events were Judith Onyepunuka (100m), Christine Cortez (800m), Zsofia Erdelyi (3000m-PR, 3rd all-time at USC), the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams and Alitta Boyd (LJ). Other males with top collegiate marks on the day were Ahmad Rashad (100m), Joey Hughes (400m), Blake Shaw (800m), the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, Brandon Estrada (PV), Aaron Dan (Discus), Trey Henderson (Hammer-PR, 8th all-time at USC), Cooper Thompson (Javelin-9th all-time at USC). Also, jumper Ben Brown and former runner Devon Rennie won the men's and women's javelin 'B sections' respectively with PRs.
EARLY SEASON SUCCESS - The USC men's team currently has 15 NCAA top 10 marks early in the season with six top marks by Joey Hughes (400m, 45.99), Reggie Wyatt (400m IH, 50.91), Bradon Estrada (PV, 17-1), Aven Wright (TJ, 51-2.75), Aaron Dan (Discus, 198-5) and Trey Henderon (Hammer, 219-9). The women's team entering this week has 12 NCAA top 10 marks, with seven in the top five: Zsofia Erdelyi (1st-3000m, 9:27.96), Shalina Clarke (4th-100m HH, 13.41), Dalilah Muhammad (4th-400m IH, 58.50), 4x400m relay (3rd), Alitta Boyd (5th-LJ, 19-8.25), Lauren Chambers (2nd-Hammer, 201-2) and Kristine Busa (2nd-Javelin, 172-7).
MORE RECRUITS ANNOUNCED - On March 24 USC announced the signing of NLIs by sprinters Loudia Laarman of Alberta, Canada (11.73-100m) and Jenna Puterbaugh of Solano Beach, Calif. (11.96-100m) for the women's team and Aaron Brown of Ontario, Canada (10.46-100m, 21.31-200m) to the men's team for the 2010-11 season. They join a class which already includes sprinter Jessica Davis of Palmdale (11.45-100m), Calif. and hurdler Lauren Blackburn of Dallas, Texas (13.70-100m HH).
NEXT WEEK - The Trojans' track and field team will compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif. on April 3.
