Eight Bears Compete in 5000m at SFSU Distance Carnival

SAN FRANCISCO - Eight Golden Bears participated in the 5000 meters at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival Friday with a pair in the women's race and six runners in the men's competition.

Sophomore Crystal Esparza won section 1 of the women's 5000, finishing in 18:01.24, with freshman Nicole Hough in second at 18:03.54.

In the men's 5000, Steve Sodaro was the lone Cal runner in section 1 and he completed the race in 15:54.02. Five other Bears were in section 3, led by Collin Jarvis in eighth at 14:37.37.
