Lewis Wins Hammer Throw to Open Arizona State Invitational

TEMPE – The Arizona State University track and field team opened its second-consecutive home meet with the hammer throw and once again had an outstanding performance, this time with Jason Lewis winning the men’s event, as action got underway at the ASU Invitational at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe on Friday afternoon.

Lewis, an All-American in the event last year, opened his outdoor season with a winning toss of 66.15m (217-0) to win the event and also move into third on the current NCAA order lists. His teammates, Jordan Clarke and Ryan Whiting, each posted Top 15 finishes as they took 11th place (55.75m/182-11) and 15th place (53.70m/176-2), respectively. On the women’s side, Ashley Lampley took top honors for ASU as she placed ninth overall with a toss of 49.19m (161-5) while Cj Navarro took 14th with a heave of 45.42m (149-0).

The ASU Invitational concludes on Saturday with the first event of the day starting at 10 a.m. with the women’d discus. The first running event, the women’s 100m hurdles, starts at 4 p.m.
