Stanford Postseason Roundball Roundup: Friday In Sacramento
March 26, 2010
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - One day prior to its 17th Sweet 16 appearance, the Stanford women's basketball team spoke with the press and took part in an open practice at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
The Cardinal's day got underway with breakfast at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento, then the team boarded its bus for Arco Arena, host site of the 2010 Sacramento Regional.
Once there, the team's duties began with the NCAA's 'Don't Bet On It' presentation, then it was time to face the media.
Head coach Tara VanDerveer was up first on the dais at 12:15, taking questions from the assorted media, while in the team's locker room, the Cardinal answered questions from reporters who came by the open locker room.
Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, Nnemkadi Ogwumike and Kayla Pedersen then headed to the dais at 12:35 to face a round of questions from the media, as VanDerveer continued answering follow-up inquiries en route to the locker room.
Once media obligations were satisfied, the Cardinal took to the Arco Arena court for the first time, putting on a one-hour open practice. Writers, photographers, fans and the ESPN production crew and talent were all on hand, as VanDerveer early on walked over to the ESPN table and spoke with Friday's broadcast team of play-by-play man Dave Pasch, color commentator Mary Murphy and sideline reporter Cara Capuano.
VanDerveer spent time chatting with ESPN's team about the next night's game and the Cardinal season in general, while the tornado of activity on the court tore by at each end.
With an early end to the day at Arco Arena, the Cardinal prepared for a short, closed practice before retiring to the hotel for team meals and video.
Saturday's contest against Georgia is set for a 6 p.m. start and can be seen on ESPNHD as well as online on ESPN360.
