Ankton Strong As Stanford Invite Wraps
March 27, 2010
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The opening outdoor weekend concluded for Husky Track today at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track. Relays and sprints were the order of the day, as the Huskies look to see what combos can help them best in dual meets, conference action, and hopefully reach NCAAs.
The 4x100-meter relays were up first, with the women clocking 47.28 seconds with Falesha Ankton, Dominique Lauderdale, Johanna Carr, and Bianca Greene carrying the stick. The men ran a very solid 41.38 to take third overall, especially with a foursome made up of three freshmen - Shayne Moore, James Alaka, and Colton Dunn - and sophomore Ryan Hamilton.
Next up was the 200-meter dash, where Greene turned in a season-best of 24.85 seconds. Switching back over to the men, Dunn covered half the track in 22.49 seconds.
Ankton then ran in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, and clocked 13.65 seconds to take third overall in a time that would have been well under the old Regional qualifying marks. Ankton took four tenths of a second off her prelim time from Friday.
Last up was the 4x400m relays. The women's group of freshmen Skye Atchley and Laura Schmitt, sophomore Amber Finley, and senior Nikki Codd posted a 3:55.29. The men closed out the meet, with junior Miles Timpe, sophomores Ryan Soberanis and Styrk, and freshman Dunn crossing in 3:20.76.
Washington will be back in action next week, traveling to the Texas Relays in Austin which is the site of this year's NCAA preliminary rounds later in the season.
