Softball Beats Bengals in Doubleheader in Walk-Off Fashion

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team (17-14) hit three home runs, two in 8-0 in five innings and 12-2 in six innings in walk-off decisions over the Idaho State Bengals (4-17) in Saturday’s doubleheader at the OSU Softball Complex.

 

Senior Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) hit a walk-off homer, her second home run of the weekend, third career, in the first game against the Bengals to score two. And junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) hit her 10th home run of the season, 31st career, to score three to end the second game.

 

Freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) hit her fourth career home run in the first game against Idaho State. And five different Oregon State players recorded one double each.

Idaho State 0, Oregon State 8 (Five Innings)

 

Oregon State (16-14) tallied 10 hits including four doubles and two home runs to blank the Idaho State Bengals (4-16) in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at the OSU Softball Complex.

 

Seniors Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) and Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.), sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) and freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) all recorded multi-hit games with two hits each.

 

The Beavers broke the scoreless game with a run in the bottom of the second after back-to-back doubles by Kutz and Black before a ground out scored the single run.

 

Oregon State added three more in the bottom of the third on three hits with junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) earning a RBI before Brenner’s two-RBI double with freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.), junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) and Roderfeld scoring to give the Beavers the 4-0 edge after three full.

 

Heading in the fourth the Beavers still held a 4-0 advantage before a line drive over the pitcher’s head by Brenner set up the first two-run homer for the Beavers with Kutz going yard over left field. Black hit a similar single over the pitcher’s head to center field before Chisholm scored two more on her shot over right field for the walk off two-run home run.

 

Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) earned the complete game shutout, her third of the season and second of the weekend, throwing a two-hitter and striking out six to improve to 11-12. Idaho State’s Kandis Clesson gave up all eight runs earned, falling to 3-12.

Idaho State 2, Oregon State 12 (Six Innings)

 

Junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) went yard for the 10th time this season to boost the Beavers (17-14) past the Bengals (4-17) in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at the OSU Softball Complex.

 

Idaho State got on the board first in the top of the first, scoring one on a wild pitch. But Oregon State quickly answered back, scoring two in the bottom half of the inning on a wild pitch and an error by catcher Shelby Ford to lead 2-1 after one full.

 

The Beavers tacked on three more in the bottom of the second on two hits and three walks with freshman Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Roderfeld earning one RBI each to give Oregon State the 5-1 lead after two.

 

Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) hit her seventh double of the season to score junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.), who reached on a walk. Freshman Kilee Lippincott (Lake Chelan, Wash.) scored the team’s seventh run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) to give the Beavers a 7-1 edge after four.

 

Idaho State added another run in the top of the fifth on Desirae Hoffman’s RBI single up the middle to cut the Beavers’ lead to 7-2. But Hall added another pair of runs for the Beavers on her two-RBI single to left field, scoring sophomore Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.), who led off the inning with a pinch-hit walk before freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) followed with a walk of her own to make the score 9-2 with no outs in the sixth.

 

With runners on first and second, Roderfeld hit her bomb over the left field fence to score three and end the game.

 

Demore earned her first win of the season, throwing a two-hitter through four innings of work with six strikeouts with both runs scoring unearned. Hall threw the remaining two innings, fanning three. Idaho State’s Nora Maschue was charged with the loss after thowing 1.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned. Her record is now 1-5.
