Kimpel 54th at World Junior Cross Country Championships

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland -- Washington State University freshman Andrew Kimpel placed 54th in men's junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, March 28, in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Kimpel, from Spokane, Wash., was the fourth member of the USA Junior Cross Country team to cross the finish line, running the 8000m course in a time of 24-minutes, 37 seconds. Kimpel finished fourth in the USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane Feb. 13.
Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku led a first through fourth-place finish for Kenya, running a time of 22:07. Kenya won the men's junior team title with the USA team placing eighth out of 19 teams.
Junior American men and their places were Trevor Dunbar from the University of Portland, 29th (23:36), Andrew Colley from North Carolina State, 42nd (24:10), Walter Schafer from Greenwood Village, Colo., 44th (24:17), Kimpel 54th (24:37), Ammar Moussa from Arcadia, Calif., 66th (25:00), and Michael Lynch from Oklahoma State, 84th (25:23). Only the top four placers counted toward team scoring.
