Oregon's Pappas and Moore Named Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON freshman right fielder Samantha Pappas was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and Oregon freshman pitcher Jessica Moore was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 22-28, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. 

Pappas had a stellar week, leading the team with a .615 batting average, while totaling eight hits, 10 RBI, two home runs, five walks and three stolen bases. The Las Flores, Calif. native hit her first career grand slam and a team season-high five RBI in a 19-0 win over Idaho State. In a doubleheader against Portland State Pappas went 3-for-3 with a walk and in two wins against Seattle she went 2-for-2 with a walk. On the week she hit safely in five of the six contests and had two game-winning RBI. Overall she leads the team in batting (.488), slugging (.893), on-base percentage (.551), hits (41), runs (22), total bases (75), RBI (30), home runs (9) and stolen bases (7).

Moore, a native of Sutter, Calif., went 3-0 last week, leading the team with 29 strikeouts, a .082 opposing batting average and an ERA of 0.00 in 14 innings pitched. In a 13-0 win over Idaho State, Moore served up a perfect game, striking out 11 batters in four innings of work. Earlier in the week she tallied eight strikeouts in three innings in a 4-0 win over Seattle and then fanned 10 more in a 3-2 complete game win against Portland State. Overall she leads the Ducks with 10 wins, 127 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched. She has held opposing batters to a .155 batting average and in less than one complete season already has cracked the all-time Oregon season strikeout list, ranking ninth with 127 strikeouts. Both Moore and Pappas have played key roles  in Oregon's current 11 game winning streak, having won 18 of its last 19 games. 

This is Pappas first-career Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and Moore's first Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for her career. Overall these honors are Oregon's 31st and 32nd weekly awards.
