Gutierrez Earns Pac-10 All-Academic Honors
April 1, 2010
BERKELEY - Sophomore guard Jorge Gutierrez has been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic second team announced today by the conference. Gutierrez boasts a GPA of 3.09, and hasn't declared a major yet.
This marks the 14th time a Golden Bear has earned mention on the first- or second-team units since 2001. Senior Nikola Knezevic made the conference all-academic second team the past two seasons.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Gutierrez earned Pac-10 All-Defensive honors earlier this season, despite playing only 20 mpg. He recorded career highs in scoring (15) and assists (6) vs. Washington State on Feb. 13. He made his first career start against Syracuse Nov. 19, filling in for the injured Theo Robertson, and went on to start 13 games total, including both NCAA Tournament contests.
