Song On The Leaderboard At Kraft Nabisco

April 2, 2010

USC sophomore Jennifer Song, playing as an amateur in the 2010 Kraft Nabisco Championship, is among a handful of players jockeying for a spot in the top 10 halfway through the season's first LPGA major tournament at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on Friday (April 2).

(The second round is still underway as of this posting)

Song, among seven amateurs that received exemptions to play in the event, fired a 1-under on Thursday and Friday for a 2-under 142 (71-71) and firmly entrench herself among the leaders 36 holes into the event.

Trojan fans can follow Song online as she competes for the title and watch ESPN2 (4-6 p.m. PDT) on Saturday and CBS (12-3 p.m. PDT) on Sunday.

Her first round featured three birdies and one bogey and included 10 pars and a birdie to close out the final 11 holes. Song, a freshman All-American in 2009 who has two collegiate titles as a 2010 sophomore, had three birdies and two bogeys again on Friday.

'I was really impressed with my short game,' Song said after the second round. 'I'm really happy with where I'm standing. It was really intense out there. The conditions are really challenging. I couldn't relax because you never know what's going to happen.'
