CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ryan Gorton allowed just one run in a career-long seven innings as the 17th-ranked Oregon State baseball team defeated Portland, 9-2, in a midweek contest Tuesday night at Goss Stadium.

Gorton surrendered his only run of the game in the first, and it was charged as an unearned run, keeping his ERA at 0.00 in a total of 13 2/3 innings this season.

Gorton struck out four while walking three and allowing five hits to improve to 3-0 this season.

'That was a great midweek outing by Ryan,' Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. 'This is a big week with UCLA visiting and he did a great job in getting a win against Portland. The offense came through and supported Ryan against a good number of Portland pitchers.

The Pilots used eight pitchers and Oregon State sufficiently supported Gorton with a total of 12 hits, six of which went for extra bases. Adalberto Santos had three of those extra-base hits, tripling in both the first and fourth innings and doubling in the eighth. His two triples tied the school's single-game record, set multiple times.

Santos walked twice in the win, putting him on base in five of his six at bats.

Rob Folsom also had a big night for the Beavers, going 4-for-5, including two doubles, with three runs driven in. The four hits marked a season-high for the outfielder and he now has a team-leading eight multiple-RBI efforts this season.

Santos led off the game offensively for OSU (19-6 overall) and proceeded to triple down the right field line. He scored when Parker Berberet singled to center, tying the game, 1-1.

Santos also tripled during Oregon State's two-run fourth, which put the Beavers at a 4-1 advantage. His triple scored a run and Santos was later driven in on a single off the bat of Stefen Romero.

Rob Folsom, who finished the game with a season-best three hits, gave Oregon State the lead for good in the third. He doubled to right center, scoring Berberet, who had singled and then moved to second on a balk.

The Beavers scored solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings, both on sacrifice flies off the bat of Matt Boyd, to push the lead to five.

Folsom capped off Oregon State's three-run eighth with a double to right center, scoring two. OSU scored its first run of the inning on a balk by Portland pitcher Ben Ruff.

Berberet finished with two hits in the win, giving him nine multiple-hit games this season.

Matt McCallister took the loss for the Pilots (18-7), dropping to 0-1 on the year. The second reliever of the game for UP, he allowed two hits and a run in 2/3 of an inning.
