Langenfeld Named Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year Award
April 7, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Senior Megan Langenfeld was named a Top 25 finalist for the 2010 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) on Wednesday.
The award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. Past winners of the award include former Bruin Stacey Nuveman (2002).
The Top 25 list represents 20 schools and seven different Division I conferences. The list is comprised of 10 seniors, seven juniors, one sophomore and seven freshmen.
A list of 10 finalists will be named and released on May 12. The final three finalists will be announced on May 26, while the winner of the 2010 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award will be announced prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.
Langenfeld leads the Bruins in batting average (.533), home runs (9), slugging (1.083), on base percentage (.659) and walks (15). She is also second with 28 runs batted in, nine multiple-RBI games and 25 runs scored, third with 10 multiple-hit contests and fourth with six doubles. Langenfeld has reached base in all but one game this season via either a hit, walk or hit by pitch and has at least one base hit in 18 of her 23 contests. She would rank third nationally in batting average, on base percentage and slugging, but has not played in enough games to qualify for the list. In the circle, Langenfeld is 4-1 with a 1.14 earned run average and 32 strikeouts in 43 innings.
The fourth-ranked Bruins host #9 Arizona State in a three-game series at Easton Stadium this weekend. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday. Gametracker and live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com, with Friday's contest also being televised on a tape-delay basis by Fox Sports Net.
