At CS San Marcos at the Mangrum Invitational, Tony Burnett won the long jump and triple jumps as well as ran on the winning 4x100m relay team, John Carley won the 3000m race, Scott DeYoung the 400m race and Taylor Slingsby the men's pole vault.
EARLY SEASON SUCCESS - The USC men's team currently has seven NCAA top 10 marks early in the season: Joey Hughes (5th-400m, 45.99), Oscar Spurlock (7th-110m, 13.81), Reggie Wyatt (8th-400m IH, 50.91), Aaron Dan (2nd-Discus, 198-5), Cooper Thompson (9th-Javelin, 226-0), Trey Henderon (6th-Hammer, 219-9) and the 4x400m Relay team (4th, 3:03.26). MEN'S 4x400M FLYS AROUND TRACK & INTO LEADERS LIST - The USC men's 4x400m relay team of redshirt sophomore Bryshon Nellum, sophomore Joey Hughes, senior Nate Anderson and freshman Reggie Wyatt placed third at the Texas Relays on April 3 with an impressive time of 3:03.26, good for sixth all-time by a Trojan quartet. USC's time currently ranks fourth in the country. The Trojans' time was the best by a USC 4x400m relay team since 2006 when Kai Kelley, Jeff Garrison, Da'Sean Cummingham and Lionel Larry had a time of 3:03.08 at the NCAA Championships.
USC'S RUN OF EXCELLENCE - The USC track and field program under the direction of Ron Allice is the only one in the country to have both the men's and women's teams finish in the top 11 at the NCAA Championships in each of the past five seasons. Further, the only non-top 10 finish during that span was an 11th-place finish by the women's team in 2008. USC and LSU are the only programs to have finished in the top 10 in four of the last five seasons. The men's team is one of three to finish in the top 10 the last five seasons, while the women's team is one of five to have four top 10 finishes.
