Cats Climb at 5th at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore Margarita Ramos shot a 2-under par round of 70 to help #8-ranked Arizona into 5th place after two rounds at the PING/ASU Invitational, Saturday afternoon at the Karsten Golf Course.
With pars recorded on each of the first nine holes, Ramos birdied the par-5 10th hole, the first of her three birdies on the day. The only blemish on her round was a bogey on the par-3 12th hole, but she added birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to join a group of five other players with the 2nd-best individual round of the day. Ramos is 1-under par and tied for 15th place overall.
The Wildcats trimmed three shots off their team total from Friday to card a team total of 1-over 289 on the day. Arizona is 5-over par for the tournament and only four shots behind UCLA and Denver for third position. Arizona State leads the tournament at 11-under par while USC remains in second place at 5-under.
Sophomore Isabelle Boineau had identical 9-hole scores of 36 to shoot even-par 72 on the day and is tied for 32nd place at 3-over par after 36 holes. Alejandra Llaneza is one shot in front of her teammate after shooting 74 on Saturday while Sherlyn Popelka is tied with Boineau after recording a total of 73.
Sophomore Nikki Koller shot 78 and is 7-over par for the event as the non-scoring team member while Brittany Benvenuto carded her second-straight round of 76 to sit 8-over par as an individual competitor. Kristina Merkle of Tulsa holds the individual lead at 7-under par while Jennifer Johnson of Arizona State and Jennifer Song of USC are each two shots off the pace.
Koller will be the first Arizona player on the course Sunday morning, teeing off from the 1st tee at 8:10 a.m.
