Guerrieri And Campbell Win Discus Competitions At Pomona-Pitzer

Lauren Guerrieri and Colin Campbell won the women's and men's discus competitions and the Trojans posted the top collegiate mark in seven events at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif. today (April 10).

The redshirt sophomore Guerrieri for the second consecutive week surpassed the 160-foot barrier, this week winning with a throw of 161-5 (49.19m). Last week, Guerrieri had a PR of 163-3 (49.77m) which is the eighth-best discus throw ever by a Trojan female.

Campbell, a redshirt sophomore, won the men's discus competition with a season-best throw of 185-2 (56.44m). Redshirt junior Tyler Grady also had a season-best mark of 136-6 (41.62m).

Sophomore Dalilah Muhammad competed in the high jump today and won with a season-best leap of 5-8.75 (1.75m). The clearance was her best as a Trojan and just one-quarter of an inch off her PR. Freshman Jennifer Stutland cleared 5-1 (1.55m) to place 10th and sophomore Candace Bailey cleared the bar at 4-9 (1.45m) to place 19th.

Junior Brendan Ames continued his strong season, today winning the men's 110m HH with a season-best wind-aided time of 13.81. It was run with a 2.1 wind and is his best time as a Trojan, bettering his 13.91w time last week at the Texas Relays.

Another winning Trojan effort came in the men's 4x100m as the team of junior Sean Jackson, sophomore Scott DeYoung, sophomore Tony Burnett and freshman Farzad Bozorgzad had a time of 41.72.

Also, junior Christine Cortez had the top collegiate 800m time and second overall of 2:11.91, while Jason Price was second in the men's 400m and first among collegiate runners with a season-best time of 48.16. Other Trojans in the 400m were sophomore Dijon Morrisette (15th, season-best 50.04), junior Tyler Ellis (40th, season-best 52.09) and in his first race of the season Michael Zuletta (53rd, 54.39).

Other USC women competing at the Pomona-Pitzer invitational were junior Courtney Clayton in the 100m (19th, 12.75), senior Kira Davis-Quarrie in the 100m (21st, 12.76), sophomore Katherine Chang in the 100m (33rd, 13.12) and triple jump (22nd, 32-5.75), senior Myra Hasson in the 400m (2nd, season-best 54.57), redshirt freshman Elan Hilaire in the 400m (10th, season-best 58.01), junior Allison Rojewski in the 1500m (14th, 4:44.53), freshman Kathleen Moloney in the 1500m (17th, 4:48.19), senior Katherine Ellis in the steeplechase (5th, 11:26), junior Cara Bickers in the long jump (9th, 17-0.75) and triple jump (8th, season-best 35-6.0), Bailey in the triple jump (4th, 36-11.50), redshirt sophomore Marissa Minderler in the hammer (4th, 181-7), redshirt sophomore Tamara Baumann in the hammer (5th, 180-7), redshirt freshman Kathryn Daniels in the hammer (17th, 141-3) and junior Devon Rennie in the javelin (10th, 113-11).

Other Trojan males competing today were Jackson in the 100m (7th, season-best 10.85) and 200m (13th, 22.14), Price in the 200m (6th, season-best 22.00), Morrisette in the 200m (26th, 22.80), sophomore Devin Forte' in the 200m (69th, 25.74), sophomore Tim Kessler in the 800m (9th, season-best 1:54.61), freshman Kris Washington in the 800m (10th, season-best 1:54.73), junior Miles Brewington in the 800m (14th, PR of 1:55.27), freshman Aaron Adkins in the 800m (17th, 1:55.44), sophomore Jeff Brown in the 800m (59th, 2:03.12), junior John Carley in the 1500m (5th, 3:56.49), sophomore Matthew Huntington in the 1500m (32nd, season-best 4:08.39), freshman Ryan Thomas in the 1500m (63rd, 4:19.68), sophomore Tony Martinez in the 5000m (14th, PR of 15:36.13), Burnett in the long jump (7th, 21-9.50), senior Ben Brown in the triple jump (8th, 43-11.25) and the javelin (13th, 161-8), redshirt sophomore Eric Stein in the hammer (8th, season-best 167-10) and Peter Yobo in the javelin (26th, in his first meet with a throw of 131-4).
