USC Set For Mt. SAC And Long Beach Invitational This Week

2010 USC TRACK AND FIELD - The USC Trojans men's and women's track and field team will be competing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. April 15-17 and at the Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. on April 16-17.
LAST WEEK AT THE POMONA-PITZER INVITATIONAL - USC discus throwers Lauren Guerrieri (161-5) and Colin Campbell (185-2) won the women's and men's discus competitions respectively to lead USC at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Walnut, Calif. on April 10. Other Trojans winning or with the top collegiate marks were: Dalilah Muhammad in the women's high jump (5-8.75), Brendan Ames in the men's 110m HH (13.81w), the men's 4x100m relay team of Sean Jackson, Scott DeYoung, Tony Burnett and Farzad Bozorgzad (41.72), Christine Cortez in the women's 800m (2:11.91, second overall) and Jason Price in the men's 400m (48.16, second overall).
TROJAN THROWERS LEADING THE WAY - The USC throwers under the direction of coach Dan Lange have put up some strong marks so far this season. For the men's team, Aaron Dan ranks second in the country in the discus (198-5) and Colin Campbell 13th (185-2), Trey Henderson has the ninth-farthest hammer throw (219-9) and Cooper Thompson the 14th-best javelin mark of 226-0. For the women's team, Lauren Chambers has the sixth-best hammer throw (201-2) and Marissa Minderler has the 25th best hammer mark (188-10) and the 24th-best javelin throw of (157-3) and Kristine Busa has the third-best javelin throw (172-7). In addition, Lauren Guerrieri is just outside the top 25 in the discus (29th, 163-3). Also, the men's team has nine marks in the throws among the top 15 Pac-10 performers and the women's team 10.
USC HURDLER U? - The USC track and field team has had one of the strongest hurdles programs in the country for years with the men's and women's teams combining for 20 NCAA titles in the high and intermediate hurdles. Trojans who have won NCAA hurdles titles are Natasha Danvers (IH), Patty Van Wolvelaere (2-HH), Virginia Powell (2-HH), Dick Attlesey (HH), Jack Davis (3-HH), Paul Kerry (HH), Earl McCullouch (2-HH), Jerry Wilson (HH), Milan Stewart (HH), Robert Reading (HH), Mark Crear (HH), Ryan Wilson (HH), Rex Cawley (IH), Tom Andrews (IH) and Felix Sanchez (IH). Once again USC is strong in the hurdles this season with Brendan Ames and Oscar Spurlock tied for ninth in the country in the 110m HH (T-2nd in Pac-10), Reggie Wyatt ranking 13th in the 400m IH (2nd in the Pac-10), Shalina Clarke ranking ninth in the country in the 100m HH (2nd in Pac-10) and Dalilah Muhammad 10th in the country in the 400m IH (1st in Pac-10). Also, Duane Walker ranks sixth in the Pac-10 in the 400m IH.
