BERKELEY - Former Cal standout Magdalena Lewy Boulet has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after becoming the fourth-fastest American ever in the women's marathon last Sunday at the Rotterdam Marathon in The Netherlands.
A 2008 Olympian in the marathon, Lewy Boulet finished second in the women's race in Rotterdam, crossing the line in a personal-best 2:26:22. Lewy Boulet's time marks her as the fourth-fastest American woman of all time, behind only Deena Kastor, Joan Benoit Samuelson and Kara Goucher.
In late March, Lewy Boulet, who also serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bears, finished 20th at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, helping the United States earn a bronze medal in the team competition. It was the first team medal in the senior women's event for the United States since 2003. Lewy Boulet covered the 8000-meter course in 26:01, which was third among the Americans.
