Seventh-Ranked Bruins Blast Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The seventh-ranked Bruins pounded out 12 runs and nine hits, as junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and sophomore Andrea Harrison each had two-hit contests in a 12-0, five-inning victory over Oregon State on Friday at the OSU Softball Complex.
The Bruins improve to 28-9 overall and 2-5 in Pac-10 play, while the Beavers fall to 21-19 and 2-5 in league action.
Celebrating her 21st birthday, junior Donna Kerr improved to 14-5 on the season, allowing one hit and two walks in three innings with one strikeout. Senior Megan Langenfeld tossed a pair of 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth.
DiSalvatore drove in three, while freshman Charlotte Dolan had two RBI, as seven different Bruins had hits. Senior Julie Burney homered and scored three runs and Langenfeld also crossed home plate twice.
The Bruins jumped all over the Beavers with six runs in the first. With one out, junior Monica Harrison walked and scored on a double to right-center by Andrea Harrison to make it 1-0. After sophomore Dani Yudin walked and Burney was hit to load the bases, Langenfeld was also plunked to plate Andrea Harrison for UCLA's second run. A bases-loaded walk to sophomore Samantha Camuso scored Yudin to make it 3-0 and Dolan followed with a single to right-center to bring in Burney to up the lead to 4-0. Freshman B.B. Bates knocked home UCLA's fifth run on a sacrifice fly to left to score Langenfeld and the Bruins made it 6-0 when DiSalvatore doubled down the right-field line to score Camuso.
UCLA tacked on five more in the second. Yudin led off with a single to right-center and was pinch-run for by junior Grace Murray, who moved to second on a walk to Burney. After a free pass to Langenfeld loaded the bases, senior Kaila Shull singled to right to bring home Murray to make it 7-0. The score became 8-0 when Dolan drew a bases-loaded walk to score Burney. One out later, DiSalvatore singled to right to plate Langenfeld and Shull to increase the margin to 10-0. Monica Harrison followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Bates for the Bruins' 11th run.
Oregon State had its only rally in the bottom of the second following a leadoff walk to Mary Claire Brenner and a single to left by Ally Kutz. But Kerr retired the Beavers on three straight fly outs to end the inning.
In the third, Burney belted her team-leading 10th home run of the season to left with one out to make it 12-0.
UCLA pitching retired the last 12 batters of the game, as Kerr set down the final six she faced and Langenfeld went 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth.
