Women's Golf Tops Leaderboard Follow Round One of Pac-10 Championships

With a solid start in the defense of their title, the Arizona State women's golf team finished the first round of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships in first place. The Sun Devils fired off 5-under 283 to close out the day with a one shot lead over No. 5 USC. Hosted by the University of Oregon, the 2010 Pac-10 Championships are held at the par 72, 6,203-yard Eugene Country Club. The Sun Devils had four players finish the day in the top 10.

Showing off her senior leadership, Juliana Murcia led the Sun Devils. The native of Bogota, Colombia knocked in five birdies to finish one shot out of the lead at 4-under 68.

Carlota Cigand finished the day tied for seventh. Ciganda, last year's Pac-10 Champion, carded 1-under 71, ending the first round tied for seventh. With scores of even par. reshman Jennifer Johnson and sophomore Jaclyn Sweeney both ended their round tied for ninth. Ending the day on a positive note with a birdie on 18, Giulia Molinaro sat tied for 25th at 2-over 74.

The Sun Devils will continue to battle for their ninth Pac-10 title tomorrow. This tournament also determines who receives the point for the State Farm Territorial Cup Series. Arizona is currently in sixth place and is 10 strokes behind the Sun Devils.
