April 20, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 17 California women's golf team remains in third place after scoring a 305 in the second round of the Pac-10 Championships, being played at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. Sophomore Joanne Lee dropped from first to third in the individual standings after shooting a 5-over 77 on Tuesday to give her an even-par 144 over the two days combined. Lee and fellow Golden Bear Roseanne Niven stand in the top 10. Niven shot a one-over 73 to jump up to a tie for eighth place.
Niven, who jumped up from 25th place, is shooting a 3-over 147 for the tournament thus far. Jacqueline Williams, who ended day one in a tie for ninth, dropped to 23rd overall after shooting a second-day score of 80 on Tuesday. Pia Halbig finished third among the Cal golfers, and tied for 14th overall, with her second-day score of 3-over 75.
UCLA claimed the lead in the team competition with a day-two score of 10-over 298, giving them a total of 587 in the two days combined. Arizona is right behind the Bruins in second (9-over 297 on Tuesday, 590 overall), joining the Golden Bears (592) in the top three.
Arizona State's hopes for a repeat title ended when two players were forced to withdraw from play due to illness. The Sun Devils were in first place after yesterday's action.
Not only did a steady rain that fell most of the day result in much higher scores, but the pin locations were much more difficult than during the opening round.
The first tee time tomorrow is at 8 a.m. with the four lowest teams in the standings starting first. Live stats are available by clicking here.
