Gymnastics Journey: Gainesville Arrival
April 20, 2010
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Hey Stanford fans,
I cannot believe it's so close to the end of the year already! Referring to ourselves as the '10.0hh snap' team, we have only a few short days left on our journey together. There is no better way to finish off a great year than at the National Championships. Woo hoo!!! We started off our week on Monday celebrating the seniors last ever practice. We each dressed up as one of the seniors and, once again, we outdid ourselves. Brownie and Dani could not have perfected Blur's style, both in and out of the gym, any better, as they truly looked like clones. JP and Amo dressed like T, and of course they busted out T's favorite silver leggings and signs saying 'I bike fast' and 'I jump high.' Ming sported the typical Carter outfit and Dayton and Shelley wore some of CJ's unforgettable leo choices. Peach and I adopted the Weedge style of short shorts and her signature backpack, all while attempting to 'bust a move' in her honor. It was an awesome start to one of our best practices of the season.
We departed early Tuesday morning for Gainesville, Fla., this year's host site (University of Florida). We started off the day with a ride to the airport in a Party Bus! Covered in disco lights, with a large dance floor, according to bus standards, it gave us another excuse for a traveling dance party. We had a quick layover in Las Vegas which left us just about enough time to de-board our first plane and board the next. Overall, the cross-country adventure seemed to go by fairly quickly as a few of us slept, some watched movies, and Peach spent her time designing new homes (architect in training). We arrived in Jacksonville around 5 p.m. and met our state of the art bus, which happens to be equipped with wireless internet. Who would have ever thought a bus would have wi-fi? Seriously, it's wicked awesome! We watched 'Bride Wars' on the way to Gainesville, which seemed like an appropriate chick flick for the time.
Unfortunately, it was raining when we arrived at our hotel, but the temperature was still rather warm. And to say it's humid here is an understatement. You've gotta love the typical East Coast humidity (at least some of us enjoy it, while others didn't like the effect it had on their hair). We went to dinner at a nearby cafe and spent the rest of the night unpacking, relaxing, hanging out, and getting ready for the exciting days ahead of us.
That's all for now, but check back in tomorrow for another SWG update! Go CARD!!!
