Track & Field Sending Small Contingent To UCSD Triton Invite

While the majority of both the men's and women's track and field teamswill rest up as they prepare for the annual crosstown battle with USC, ahandful of athletes will head to La Jolla for the UCSD Triton Invitational.The women's team will send pole vaulters and jumpers, as well as RyannKrais in the 400m hurdles. The men's team will send throwers, vaultersand decathlete Trent Perez to compete in a few events.

Looking Ahead To May 1st
The Bruins will host crosstown rival USC on Saturday May 1st in theannual dual meet with the Trojans. The hammer will be held on Saturday,instead of Friday (as it has been held in years past) at 9:30 am. The rest ofthe meet will begin at 12:10 on the fi eld and 1:00 pm on the track. Thereis no television coverage of this year's meet.

Viuf Regains 2009 Form With 14-2 Vault
Katy Viuf has re-entered the national scene after battling injuries duringindoors. After clearing 14-0 at the RJ/JJK Invite, Viuf cleared a lifetime-best14-2 at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Florida. That mark is No. 3 inthe NCAA and No. 3 all-time at UCLA.

Dylan Knight Moves Into Bruin Top-10
Competing in Tracktown USA (Eugene, OR), Knight blew away the steeplechasefi eld in a dual with the Ducks as he ran an impressive lifetimebestof 8:48.84 to win. That time is eighth in the NCAA and eight all-timein UCLA history.

Rowe Hurdles Into UCLA Top-10
Lindsay Rowe made her all-time top-10 debut at the Tom Jones MemorialClassic in Florida as she ran a lifetime-best 13.36 in the hurdles. With thattime, Rowe moved to 10th all-time in school history.

McLaughlin Hitting Her Stride
Junior sprinter Ashlea McLaughin's season is shaping up to be a big oneas she has already ran lifetime-bests in the 200m, 400m and 800m thisseason. She has been building a strong base through 800m training and ithas carried over into the sprinting events as she holds the top marks forthe Bruins in all three events.

Primm & Patterson Start Outdoors Off Hot
Senior Marlon Patterson opened his outdoor season with a bang at theCal/NV meet, running the top 1500m time by an American this seasonwith his lifetime-best run of 3:42.13. Primm also had a huge opener in the800m, running just .03 seconds shy of his lifetime-best (1:47.78) for theNo. 2 time in the NCAA this season.

Peña Vaults To New Heights In Senior Season
After clearing a lifetime-best 13-11.25 during indoors, Peòa has continuedto move up the bar as she cleared a lifetime-best 14-1.25 at the Cal/NVmeet. That mark is tied for second in the NCAA this season and tied forNo. 4 all-time in UCLA history.

Coaching Honors Roll In For Maynard
Head men's coach Mike Maynard was named Men's Coach of the Meet atthe Cal/NV Championships, his second coach of the year honor in just hisfi rst season at UCLA. Maynard was also honored as MPSF Coach of theYear after leading the men to the indoor conference crown.

Bruin Redshirts For The 2010 Outdoor Season
On the women's side, pole vaulter Tori Anthony will redshirt the outdoorseason. She has had some injury problems and will return in 2011 for hersenior season. Freshman Kayla Kovar will also redshirt the 2010 season.On the men's side, throwers Darius Savage (medical), Matt Kosecki, AndreasDrbal, as well as jumper Taylor Hobson will sit out this season.

Freshman DJ Lloyd Out For 2010 Season
Freshman jumper DJ Lloyd suffered a knee injury at the Cal Poly Inviteon April 3rd and will miss the remainder of the outdoor season. He willrequire surgery and could receive a medical redshirt.
