GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Washington juniors Kristen Linton and Samantha Walior got a taste of the NCAA Championships Thursday night in what they hope is just a prelude to bigger things in 2011.

The Husky duo became the first pair of GymDawgs to compete at Nationals since 2003, competing in the floor exercise. Linton finished tied for 21st with a 9.800 while Walior finished 38th with a 9.525.

UW's two most consistent performers all season were rewarded for their great years with a berth in Nationals after they tied for the title on floor at the NCAA Regionals in Salt Lake City. Both scored a 9.900 to become the first Huskies since 2008 to qualify for the NCAA finals.

The duo now will look forward to 2011 which could be a banner year for the GymDawgs. The Huskies did not have a senior on their 2010 roster and return 2008 Nationals competitor Haley Bogart, all-around star Hatsune Akaogi and a group of very talented underclassmen who contributed in 2010. A strong recruiting class should also help the Huskies jump into the top 20 in the nation after they finished No. 23 this year.

The NCAA Championships continue Friday with the Super Six team competition and conclude Saturday with event finals.
