Volleyball Announces 2010 Schedule
April 22, 2010
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona volleyball team has formalized and released its schedule for the upcoming 2010 season. The Wildcats, who last season posted a record of 19-11 and a trip to the NCAA tournament, will appear in four non-conference tournaments before Pac-10 play.
To begin the season, UA will travel to South Bend, Ind. to play in the Shamrock Invitational at Notre Dame. Their first opponent is still to be decided, but the Cats know they’ll face Marshall and Notre Dame in matches two and three, respectively.
The Cats will then come home to host the Wildcat Classic over the first week of September. Other teams confirmed for the Classic include Louisville, Butler and Cal State Bakersfield.
The following weekend, the women travel to Reno, Nev. for a tournament against the likes of Northern Arizona, Pacific and Nevada-Reno.
Before beginning conference play, Arizona will host its annual Arizona Invitational during the third weekend of September. Teams competing in the Invite along with the Wildcats include Pepperdine, New Mexico State and Texas State.
Arizona will open up conference play at home in 2010 with matches against Cal and Stanford to begin yet another highly competitive Pac-10 schedule.
In 2009, UA opened the year with a program-best 12 consecutive wins and went on to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years. In 2010, Arizona will return a bevy of experienced leaders including seniors-to-be Paige Weber, Whitney Dosty and Tiffany Owens. All three garnered Pac-10 Honorable Mention praise in '09.
