Pac-10 Tennis Championships Doubles and Singles Semifinals Set

OJAI, Calif. -- Unlike the first day, the second day of the Pac-10 Tennis Championships in Ojai, Calif., saw sunny skies and warmer temperatures. In singles action, the top seeds for the men and women, USC's Robert Farah and Stanford Hilary Barte, each advanced winning their matches in straight sets. Friday also marked the start of doubles play.
On the men's side, it will be Trojans vs. the Cardinal as each team placed two players in the semifinals. Stanford's Bradley Klahn, last year's Pac-10 singles champion, defeated USC's Peter Lucassen 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the Pac-10 semifinals for the second-straight season. Also making the semifinals in back-to-back seasons was Farah, who advanced with an easy 6-1, 6-2 over Oregon's Alex Cornelissen.
The singles semifinals have Klahn versus Daniel Nguyen (USC), who fought back against UCLA's Matt Brooklyn after dropping the first set to win the match 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-0, and Farah taking on Ryan Thacher (STAN). Thacher advanced after taking down UCLA's Nick Meister in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, the duo of Farah and sophomore Steve Johnson beat Stanford's Matt Kandath/Denis Lin, 8-2, in the round of 16 then beat Arizona Geoff Emby/Pat Matham, 8-4. The No. 1 doubles team in the tournament will take on Washington's Kyle McMorrow/Jeevan Nedunchiyan who beat UCLA's Amid Inbar/Matt Brooklyn, 8-6. The other semifinal match pairs UCLA's Inbar/Meister against the Cardinal's duo of Klahn/Thacher.
On the women's side, California has two players in the semifinals. Junior Mari Andersson defeated Arizona State's Hannah James in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Anderson will face UCLA's Yasmin Schnack in the semifinals. Schnack advanced after ASU's Micaela Hein withdrew to an injury. On the other side of the bracket, Barte will face California Marina Cossou who defeated Elisabeth Fournier of Washington State 6-1, 7-6(6). Barte beat teammate Stacey Tan 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, the top two seeds advanced to Friday's semifinals. The top-seeded duo of Barte/Lindsay Burdette won easily in their opening round match, beating UCLA's Maya Johansson/Pamela Montez, 8-1. Next up, they defeated California's pair of Marina Cossou/Kaisa Siwosz, 8-4.
