UCLA's Langenfeld Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week; Washington's Lawrie Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

April 26, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior first baseman Megan Langenfeld was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and Washington senior pitcher Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 19-25, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Langenfeld, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 5-for-7 (.714) with four home runs, eight runs batted in, six runs scored and three walks in a three-game series sweep of Stanford this past weekend. She reached base in nine of her 12 plate appearances, posting a 2.571 slugging percentage. In game one of the series, Langenfeld tied a career high with two home runs and four RBI, scoring three runs, drawing a walk and adding a sacrifice fly. In game two, on Saturday, she went 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks. To end the series, Langenfeld again tied her career high by belting two home runs and tallying four RBI to help the Bruins earn a 10-1 win and the series sweep.

Lawrie continued her stellar season on the road at then-No. 17 California over the weekend. The Langley, B.C. native earned a 1-0 win in 10 innings in game one of the series, allowing only three hits and striking out a season-high 18 on 173 pitches. On Sunday, Lawrie fired her third perfect game of the season, tying a Pac-10 single-season record. She fanned 14 batters in a 4-0 win to give the Huskies a 2-1 series victory over the Bears. Lawrie has now passed Arizona State's Katie Burkhart to move into second all-time in Pac-10 history in career strikeouts with 1,692 and is just 76 shy of the all-time record. Lawrie has struck out 10 or more batters in seven of her last eight starts in Pac-10 play, giving her 17 double-digit strikeout games on the season.

This is Langenfeld's sixth-career Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week honor and first of the 2010 season. It marks UCLA's 114th weekly honor overall. Lawrie now has 15 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors, the most in Pac-10 history. Washington has 75 weekly accolades all-time.
