Track gears up for Oregon Relays

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track team travels south to Eugene for the Oregon Relays Friday, April 30 at Heyward Field. Another group of runners will compete at the Pacific Twilight Invitational Saturday, May 1.
The Beavers are coming off a successful trip to the Mt. SAC Relays where they saw two school records go down on consecutive days. Sandra Martinez set the all-time mark in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:27.82. Casey Masterson followed Martinez's performance by breaking her own school record in the 1,500 meter with a time of 4:25.18.
Following two days at the Mt. SAC Relays, another group competed at the Lewis & Clark Invitational where redshirt freshman Olivia Poblacion brought home a victory in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a a career best time of 11:23.43.
Oregon State will now put its training to the test at the Oregon Relays at Heyward Field in Eugene. It will be competing in seven events, the most events at any one meet this spring.
Lorine Cruz, Ashely Mayfield, Lauren Graebner and Ariel Clark will all be competing in the 1,500 meters B section followed by Lorene Young, Hannah Soza-Hodgkinson, Krista Stangel and Jennifer Macias in the 5,000 meters B section.
Masterson and Poblacion will be competing in the 3,000 meters steeplechase. It will be Masterson's first competition in the event this spring.
Sylvia Veal will be competing in the section 2 heat of the 1,500 meters and comes in with a season best time of 4:3417.
Matinez, Abbie Chesimet and Emily Olson will be competing in the 5,000 meter run to finish out the event for the Beavers.
Emily Olson will be running in the 10,000 meters along with Marsha Lampi, who will be running unattached.
Following the Oregon Relays, another group of competitors will be competing at the Pacific Twilight Invitational Saturday, May 1.
Freshman Audrey Botti will make her track debut at the Pacific Twilight in the 1,500 meters. Joining Botti and running unattached will be freshman Erin Jones and redshirt freshman Laurel Parks. Competing in the 5,000 meters will be Joslynn Corredor, Taylor Nowlin and Jenny O'Connor.
Running in the 800 meters will be Kristin Oenning. She has a season best time in the event of 2:23.80 set at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival last month.
