Softball Falls to No. 1 Washington

April 30, 2010

Seattle, Wash. – The Oregon State softball team (22-25, 2-11) struck first to take the early lead, but the No. 1 Washington Huskies (37-5, 10-3) won Friday’s contest, 13-1 in five innings, at the Husky Softball Stadium.

Oregon State scored first in the opening inning led by freshman Lea Cavestany’s (Pittsburg, Calif.) leadoff full count double to center field that nearly cleared the wall, setting up the next batter, junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.), for a RBI single.

Washington quickly tied it up in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI single with bases loaded by Shawna Wright, but the Beavers were able to escape the inning with only one run given up. But the Huskies added a couple more in the bottom of the second to take the 3-1 lead.

But the Huskies broke open the game in the bottom of the third with 10 runs.

Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) was the pitcher of record after throwing 2.0 innings. Senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) came in relief in the third inning. Washington’s Danielle Lawrie earned the complete game win, improving to 28-2.
