Onyepunuka And Stately Named Pac-10 Athletes Of The Week
May 3, 2010
Onyepunuka was named Pac-10 Female Track Athlete of the Week as she won both the 100m and 200m dashes and ran a leg for USC's winning 4x100m team to help lead USC to a 106-57 win in the annual Dual Meet against crosstown rival UCLA on May 1. Onyepunuka's 100m time of 11.56 was a season best and is tied for third in the Pac-10, while her 200m time of 23.71 was also a season best and ranks fifth in the conference. The Trojan 4x100m relay team won with a time of 44.40 which is the second-fastest time posted by a Pac-10 quartet this season.
Stately was named Pac-10 Female Field Athlete of the Week as she broke her school record in the pole vault and became USC's first female vaulter to clear 14-0 feet (4.27m) in winning the USC-UCLA Dual Meet pole vault competition in Westwood, Calif. on May 1. Her win in the pole vault snapped at least an 11-year stranglehold in that event by the Bruins and helped USC to its first three-year winning streak against the Bruins.
