Rodgers Brothers and Paea Named to Preseason All-America Team

May 3, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. - has named Oregon State’s Stephen Paea (pie-uh), James Rodgers and Heisman Trophy candidate Jacquizz (juh-quizz) Rodgers to its 11th annual Preseason All-American Team.  James was a First Team selection, while Jacquizz and Paea are on the Second Team.

James Rodgers enters the 2010 season with 5,077 all-purpose yards, third most among active players in the country.  The senior wide receiver and returner broke the single season school record for receptions in a season with 91 and has 161 for his career, 59 short of Mike Hass’ (2002-05) school mark of 220.  James already ranks sixth all-time at OSU with 1,849 career receiving yards.

His younger brother Jacquizz (Juh-quizz), a junior running back, is on nearly every Heisman preseason list.  The 2008 Pac-10 Conference offensive MVP begins the year with 2,693 career rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on the ground.  Jacquizz is on pace to be the second-leading rusher ever in the Pac-10 Conference at his current average through four seasons.  The 2009 All-American was a semi-finalist last season for the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year.

Paea is one of the premier defensive tackles in the nation and is currently on the preseason watch lists for the Lott Award and Lombardi Trophy.  The senior has 19.5 career quarterback sacks and was named last season’s co-recipient of the Pac-10 Conference’s Morris Trophy, awarded to the league’s top defensive lineman as selected by the opposing offensive linemen.

Oregon State is one of only eight teams to place three or more players on the preseason All-American Team, and the only one from the Pac-10.
